octubre 20rd 2025

On the occasion of the celebration of World Animation Day, and as part of Animac, the Catalan International Animation Film Exhibition, on Friday October 24, at 7 p.m., at the CaixaForum space (av. de Blondel, 3, Lleida), the film Black Butterflies (2024), by Canarian director and producer David Baute, a film that addresses one of the most relevant issues of today: climate migration.

In Mariposas Negras climate change impacts three lives: that of Tanit, Valeria and Shaila, three women from very different parts of the planet, but with one thing in common: they lose everything due to the effect of global warming and are forced to migrate. Three experiences, based on so many other true stories, among the almost two hundred million people who the United Nations estimates have left their lands as a result of this problem.

Baute, committed to the fight against climate change, aims to make visible the climate and human crisis that is hidden behind this forced migration, giving voice to real witnesses who experience it first hand. The film also aims to raise awareness of this reality.

For the creation of the film, David Baute has dedicated more than fifteen years, traveling to different places and interviewing several female witnesses to document himself and offer a documentary film as close to reality as possible, showing the figure of the climate migrant and the helplessness he suffers.
