Synopsis

According to Lapine mythology, Frith, the sun god, created the world and blessed all animals with special talents. Spurred by the disobedience of the rabbit prince El-ahrairah, Frith created predators, but he also gifted rabbits with cunning and speed to help them survive. In the present day, Fiver has an apocalyptic vision and flees with his brother Hazel and some other rabbits in search of a new refuge, facing numerous dangers before they settle on Watership Down.

To protect his new warren, Hazel leads a rabbit rescue mission to Efrafa, an oppressive regime governed by General Woundwort. Following an attack, Hazel frees a dog who defeats their enemies. Peace is restored, and Hazel dies years later, led into the afterlife by the Black Rabbit of Inlé, having turned Watership Down into a safe haven.
