The 29th edition of Animac, the International Animation Film Festival of Catalonia, organized by the Lleida City Council from February 20 to 23, 2025, awards the Animation Prize Master Gianluigi Toccafondo (Italy, 1965), artist, director and animator with a unique career that stands out for a unique and unmistakable pictorial style.
His work transcends the conventional limits of animation and explores the fusion between painting, film and movement. With a consolidated career in the field of advertising, film and visual arts, Toccafondo has become a reference in contemporary animation.
As part of the tribute, Animac will dedicate a retrospective to its most notable works, including films such as “La voix des sirènes” (2024), “Pinocchio” (1999) and “La Pista” ( 1991). Toccafondo will also give a masterclass during the event to share its vision and experience with students and professionals in the sector.
A visual universe with its own stamp
Toccafondo is known for its fluid and dynamic painting style, which transforms images into a continuous flow of shapes and colors. His technique, which combines hand painting, image manipulation and digital montage, has earned him international recognition.
In addition to his personal filmography, he has worked for institutions such as RAI and brands such as Prada and Ferrari, applying his artistic language in advertising short films and animated series.
Likewise, the Italian artist gained the trust of the American film director Ridley Scott, who commissioned him to design the opening credits of “Gladiator II” (2024). A few years ago, he had also designed the logo for his production company, Scott Free.
