ANIMAC PRESENTS THE POSTER OF THE 2022 EDITION WITH THE THEME ‘THE STRENGTH OF THE IMAGINATION’ AS A PROTAGONIST

Animac, the International Animation Film Festival of Catalonia organized by Lleida City Council, presents the poster for its 26th edition , the work of the Norwegian artist < b> Gina Thorstensen , who illustrates the central theme of the Forces of Imagination contest. This will be the theme of a program that is being developed to bring, in Lleida from 3 to 6 March and online from 4 to 13 March, the best of animation cinema, with monographic sessions and retrospectives of films. films that explore the subject of imagination and its expressive power, as well as a careful selection of newly created short and feature films from around the world, lectures and masterclasses for animation lovers.

“In this 26th edition we want to regain presence in all the activities of the Show, from school sessions to conferences and the Animacrea workshop space. Despite the pandemic, most of the animated productions have gone ahead, so we will have a quality program and a lot of desire to see it together in Lleida “, explains Carolina López , director of Animac.

In the words of the creator of the image of Animac 2022: I wanted to show this strength that we have to create imaginary worlds also outside our head and I shaped the poster with the flower bud about to open and reveal its inner world “, explains Thorstensen .

For the second year in a row, Thorstensen has been in charge of creating the Animac poster and will also be the creator of the animated presentation mask for the event, made in collaboration with the Catalan animator David Borrull. Internationally recognized for her work as an artistic director in animated feature films such as the award-winning “Marona’s Fantastic Tale” or the most recent “The Island”, the Norwegian creator explains: “I had the great pleasure of making the poster of ‘Animac 2022, with a very broad theme such as the power of the imagination. To find a way to illustrate this, I started thinking about how I see my imagination and what visual form it has for me. Imagining is a big part of my job, in my head I see it as something intuitive, free, growing out of control, but also phases to give direction and shape to ideas ”.

The 2022 edition of Animac has received 556 films in open call from about fifty countries of origin, including France with 123 films, Spain with 93, the United States with 39 and the United Kingdom with 32, among others. others. Of the total number of films presented, 251 are from animation schools around the world, which shows the potential of Animac to discover new talent and offer young people a window to screen their first works in the field. of animation cinema.

Gina Thorstensen is a Norwegian artist working in a variety of fields, including animation, illustration, mural painting, sculpture, and virtual reality. He is interested in experimenting and mixing all kinds of materials and formats. She has a degree in art and design from the Escola Massana in Barcelona and a master’s degree in film and new media from the Norwegian Film School.

His artistic work has been recognized and shown in publications, film festivals and exhibitions around the world. Her most recent and notable projects include background design and art direction for “Marona’s Fantastic Tale” and art direction for “The Island”, both animated feature films directed by the Romanian director. Anca Damian. Her shows, “Brotan” and “Cosmogonías”, were shown at the Galeria Cromo in Barcelona in 2016 and 2018. As a director, animator and designer, she has made several music videos in collaboration with Nacho Rodríguez and Tomek Ducki.
