Humans Build The Biggest Nests  – Isaac King

From February 22 to May 25, 2025

Please touch this art installation. Brush your hand across the pages to see connected stories come to life. Choose your path among geese, humans, invasive Phragmites plants, white-tailed deer, bacterial diseases, dandelions, carp, mice, pine trees, turkey vultures, a tick, a turtle, and a spider. How do these companion species and these “nuisance animals” overlap in the framework of coexistence?

Humans Build the Biggest Nests is a giant ecological flipbook that combines animation and storytelling with ecological education as its starting point. This installation requires touching to reflect on our outsized impact on ecosystems. On a planetary scale, this is known as the Anthropocene. The creatures in these drawings transform, eat, grow, build, raise young and interact in dangerous and peaceful ways, locating humans within nature, not outside of it. The miniPanera space hosts a total of 532 drawn frames, 232 cards and 78 possible routes. Can you find: a hungry deer, strangled native plants, a confused turtle, impatient cars, a destructive child, a traveling tick and a restored and biodiverse wetland? In this context, the miniPanera space invites visitors to make their own flipbook and tell their story.

We also receive the collaboration of the Lleida Public Library with the loan of some publications, through which the little ones can discover new stories where nature and the human species coexist in the same space, our mother earth.
