Glàfira Smith is a Barcelona-based illustrator and storyteller who works in various media, including illustration, film and comics. After years as a visual artist, she turned to illustration. Honourable mention Premi de còmic en català del Diari Ara 2021 Camuflatge

Synopsis of Trufa:

Dogs don’t see colours the way we do. Nor do they look at the world in the same way; theirs is a more intense, empathetic and generous gaze. And Glàfira Smith captures it beautifully, because that is the way she sees and recreates reality in her drawings. Trufa is a story about two kinds of love: that of a mature man and that of the dog given to him. It is an asymmetrical and unequal love story, but it is also a great love story in which Smith plants other stories that sprout and grow, such as that of an ageing marriage or that of a daughter and a father who always runs away from problems. Many children of the post-war generation found it difficult to understand their parents, who stubbornly looked forward, perhaps because there was only rubble and death behind them. Between perplexity and amusement, Smith looks at her father and portrays his presence as well as his absence. But she always does so with love, and the result could not be more exciting or liberating.
