Councilwoman Pilar Bosch claims animated film as an educational and reflection tool

The Animac School Sessions, the International Animated Film Festival of Catalonia, began today in Lleida and will be held until February 20, with the expected participation of nearly 11,000 students from 80 educational centers in the territory over the four days. La Llotja and CaixaForum Lleida host 13 screenings aimed at early childhood, primary and secondary education students, with a selection of short and feature films adapted to each age group.

In the media attention, the Councilor for Culture of the Lleida City Council, Pilar Bosch, has stressed that the school sessions are a key piece of Animac. “It is essential to also train boys and girls in a taste for cinema and animated cinema,” he stated, highlighting that the exhibition is not limited to the experience of watching projections in a theater, but also incorporates pedagogical work through educational dossiers that are worked on in the centers before and after the viewing.

The school programming is aligned with the motto of this 30th edition, “Things Change”, and raises reflections on the social, technological and cultural changes that are going through the contemporary world. Bosch explained that many of the works project questions linked to artificial intelligence and the future of creative professions, as well as issues related to feminism, motherhood and the model of society that wants to be built. With the start of the School Sessions, Animac activates one of the central axes of the exhibition: the training of audiences from childhood and educational support through animated films.

Animac is celebrated from February 19 to 22, 2026 in Lleida and is organized by the Lleida City Council. The exhibition has the support of CaixaForum Lleida, the Fundació de les Arts de Lleida, the Ministry of Culture (ICAA), the Provincial Council of Lleida (IEI) and the ICEC of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
